WILDLIFE SANCTUARY - HEALESVILLE

These holidays I decided to break free from my writing desk and get out with my family. It's spring here and the weather is warming up so today I took Bella and my grandson to the Sanctuary and boy did we have a good day. We had a close-up, once in a lifetime, wallaby encounter (as seen below) which is surely every homeschool parent's dream come true. This wallaby was quite keen to  have whatever was in that man's bag but luckily we were told before we entered the enclosure to be quiet and not to feed the animals. The children were thrilled at being able to pat him and my grandson spent the rest of the day saying "dog, dog," quite enthusiastically.

And then we went to the Baby Centre and oh my goodness, they were so cute - the photo's really don't do them any justice. This is where babies are brought to from all over Victoria (our state) who have lost their mothers due to bushfire, car accidents etc. They are expertly cared for - there is an animal operating theatre for the public to view

The Bird of Prey show is spectacular - people come from all over the world to see this.

Dingos are beautiful animals

Emus are such odd looking birds

This term (term 4 and the last one for the year) we are going to study quokas and platapus'. They are both such interesting animals - did you know it costs the Sanctuary $300 per week to feed one platapus. And they have the most interesting way of breastfeeding their babies. I hope to get some photos of them the next time we go.
