WILDLIFE SIGHTINGS II

KOOKABURRA SITS ON THE OLD HANDRAIL

Being surrounded on three sides by National Parks and living so close to nature has it's advantages: Bella and I were getting ready for another busy day of home education when we spotted this little beauty outside our family room window - he was just sitting and looking at us from the balcony handrail - so naturally we offered him some bread but the moment we came too close to him he flew off. It's very unusual to see a kookaburra up so close here in Australia but we always know they are around because we hear them all of the time; some people say that when you hear them singing that rain is coming and others say that they sing when they hear or see something funny - so when we hear them from inside, whoever's talking will stop mid-sentence and say:

"Well, the kookaburras think I'm funny, anyway."

Bella and I are going to study kookaburras this term.
